SOUNDS AUSTRALIA and Tamworth Wrap Up Another Amazing Year at Americana Music Festival

(Nashville, Tenn. – Sept. 29, 2015) The 2015 Americana Music Festival and Conference brought an incredible range of talent during its weeklong festivities in Nashville, Tenn. This was the seventh year of involvement for SOUNDS AUSTRALIA and Tamworth Music Festival, bringing us events such as Australiana Americana, THE AUSSIE BBQ and The Sister City Jam.

One of the most raved about events was Tamworth’s “Australiana Americana” – an annual showcase of Australian talent held at the legendary Bluebird Café, featuring artists: Allan Caswell, Amber Lawrence, Bill Jackson & Pete Fidler, Dan Parsons, Daniel Champagne, Geoff Achison, Imogen Clark, Kirsty Akers, Kristy Cox, Liz Stringer, Loren Kate, Matt Ellis, One Up Two Down, Teischa Jones and Tracy McNeil. The event was hosted by Dobe Newton, who introduced us to some top-notch musicians, some of which were Nashville veterans, as well as a few fresh faces.

One of SOUNDS AUSTRALIA’s biggest events this year – as well as every other year – was THE AUSSIE BBQ held on Saturday, Sept. 19 at The 5 Spot. This event has become internationally famous for introducing the world to hundreds of new Australian artists, as well as being a great networking event for industry professionals and fans alike. This year, THE AUSSIE BBQ featured 10 of Australia’s most exciting acts within the Americana and singer-songwriter scenes: Henry Wagons, Halfway, Josh Rennie-Hynes, Liam Gerner, Liz Stringer, Oh Pep!, Raised By Eagles, Roller One, Ruby Boots and Steve Grady. These eclectic artists packed The 5 Spot on the fifth day of the festival, bringing some Aussie flair to the Nashville Americana scene. Since its start in 2003, THE AUSSIE BBQ has grown exponentially into a circuit of shows that includes Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Brighton, Liverpool, London, Singapore, Mumbai, Pune, Nashville and Austin.

John Anderson Releases Praiseworthy New Single, “Don’t Forget To Thank The Lord”

(Nashville, Tenn. – September 23, 2015) – Country music icon, John Anderson, has released a praiseworthy new single, titled “Don’t Forget To Thank The Lord,” to Country radio. The track, which is the second release from his most recent album, Goldmine, was co-written by Anderson and John Rich.

“Don’t Forget To Thank The Lord” was shipped to radio on Sept. 14. Radio listeners will love the positivity of the song, which calls for us to be thankful for all the many blessings the Lord has given us.

For Anderson, the single was born out of a sincere thankfulness for all the opportunities he’s been given to pursue his music.

“I’ve always loved the Lord and been very thankful He’s allowed me to do what I do. That’s a pretty good message for anybody, no matter whether they like the song or not,” said Anderson.

Anderson released his new album, Goldmine, on May 26, which also marked his first album release in nine years. The award-winning and Hall of Fame songwriter wrote or co-wrote 12 of the album’s 13 tracks. The album is currently available on iTunes, Amazon, and other major digital retailers.

In the end, Anderson chose to pursue his country music dreams, a decision for which all his fans are very grateful. Anderson is recognized as one of the greatest country singers to ever step up to the microphone, possessing one of the most instantly identifiable vocal instruments in the history of the genre.

Anderson got his start in 1977 when he signed with Warner Brothers Records. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on October 5, 2014, and holds a wealth of industry awards including Academy of Country Music Career Achievement Award.

MEET THE ACTS ATTENDING AMERICANAFEST 2015

The official artists chosen this year highlight the diversity of songwriting talent and the engaging and dynamic live shows coming out of Australia.

Untitled1

Emma Swift is a wandering songbird who splits her time between Sydney, Australia and Nashville, Tenn. A fan of minor chords, heart worn highways, scuffed-up boots, gin and endless pedal steel, she likes to play vulnerable music. Her heroes, in no particular order, are: Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, Bill Callahan, Anais Nin, Lucinda Williams and whoever invented dry shampoo.
Performing: Saturday, Sept. 19 – The Basement – 8 p.m. CST

Untitled2

Returning to AmericanFest for the second time is Henry Wagons. Best known as the front man of “Wagons,” Henry’s solo career owes as much to Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra as it does to Johnny Cash. The past few years have seen Wagons share stages around the world with Lucinda Williams, Justin Townes Earle, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Calexico, Bill Callahan, Will Oldham, Okkervil River and John Hiatt, along with SXSW, Canadian Music Week and Americana showcases.
Performing: Friday, Sept. 18 – The Basement East – 11 p.m. CST

Untitled3

Performing for the first time at AmericanaFest while simultaneously working on their fifth studio album with Mark Nevers, Halfway bring a raucous brand of Americana into the mix at 2015’s festival. Halfway formed in 2000 in Brisbane, Australia and they have released four critically acclaimed albums. Originally starting out on Sydney’s Laughing Outlaw Records, they are now on Brisbane label Plus One Records. In 2008, key writers John Busby and Chris Dale won the Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship, arguably Australia’s most prestigious song writing award.
Performing: Friday, Sept. 18 – The Basement – 9 p.m. CST

Untitled4

Not even 23 years old, Oh Pep! have been awarded Young Folk Performer of the Year 2014 and nominated in the Best Folk Roots Category by The Age Music Victoria Award. They have released two EPs to date and gained rapid momentum, touring Australia, the USA and Europe. Oh Pep! embark on another great adventure this September with their first North American tour which will see them perform at the Americana and CMJ and an array of shows across Canada and the U.S, with dates in Europe to follow.
Performing: Saturday, Sept. 19 – The Basement East – 9 p.m. CST

Untitled5

Four piece alternative country rock’n’rollers, Raised By Eagles, released their debut LP in July 2013. Since that time, continually raw and captivating performances have cemented their reputation as one of Melbourne’s most sought after independent acts, receiving rave reviews across the country and a nomination for ‘Best Country Album’ at The Age Music Victoria Awards 2013. The band went on to deliver a blinding run of shows throughout 2014 that included appearing alongside international luminaries of the genre, Justin Townes Earle, Ryan Bingham and Lindi Ortega at the inaugural ‘Out On The Weekend’ Festival.
Performing: Friday, Sept. 18 – The Basement – 9p.m. CST

[The young singer/songwriter charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart (now Hot Country Songs).]  She followed with the release of THE STRONG ONE and her independent album entitled STAINED GLASS WINDOW.   Mila has become a staple in the Music Row community as a sought-after songwriter, producer, performer and music plugger. She was instrumental in launching the music career of Rascal Flatts and has worked closely alongside Ronnie Milsap–one of the most popular and influential country music performers of our time. Mila has a new single at radio now (“Run Like A Girl”) which is enjoying success on the Independent Adult Contemporary charts; the single has just crossed over to the county music format. She has done background vocals, acoustic guitar and is an aspiring singer-songwriter. She has played in a writers round at The Party Fowl, but is excited that this is her first time performing onstage in Nashville. Past performances in her hometown in Oklahoma helped hone her skills before relocating to Nashville to pursue her dream in the music industry. Dave & Whitney 2
Dave and Whitney: This next act is not just another “man-made” performing and recording duo. This fun-loving, dynamic pair is a spiritual bond explosive with talent and their chemistry is evident with each and every note they sing. Their show schedule over the last two years has taken them through 50 states where they have shared the stages with Randy Houser, Florida Georgia Line, Eli Young Band, David Nail, Parmalee, Sara Evans, Jana Kramer, Casey James, Love and Theft and Dustin Lynch. This past July, they celebrated the release of their first national EP, entitled ALIBI.
